This is a combination of two medicines used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It helps control blood sugar in people with diabetes. Glifor should be taken with food. Take it regularly at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it. Your doctor will decide what dose is best for you and this may change from time to time depending on how it works depending on your blood sugar. Glifor is a combination of two diabetes medicines: glipizide and metformin. Glipizide is a sulfonylurea that works by increasing the amount of insulin released by the pancreas to lower blood sugar. Metformin is a biguanide that works by lowering the production of glucose in the liver, delaying the absorption of glucose from the intestines, and increasing the body's sensitivity to insulin. There is no fixed dosage regimen for the management of hyperglycemia in patients with type 2 diabetes with Glifor or Glifor XR or any other pharmacological agent. The dosage of Glifor or Glifor XR should be individualized on the basis of both efficacy and safety, without exceeding the maximum recommended daily doses. The maximum recommended daily dose of Glifor is 2550 mg in adults and 2000 mg in children (10 to 16 years); the maximum recommended daily dose of Glifor XR for adults is 2000 mg.
